Founding Partner

Matthew is the Founding Partner of M.J. Partnership; Solicitors and currently oversees the Corporate and Commercial law, Capital Market, Intellectual Property, and Estate Planning (incorporating Wills, Probate and Administration of Estates) units of the Firm.

He is also a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Matthew obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1988 and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. He went on to obtain a Masters in Law degree in Commercial Law from the University of Lagos in 2002. Over the past three decades of practice, Matthew has garnered extensive experience and expertise acting for and advising clientele in both the private and public sectors of the economy. He was one of the lead counsel in the acquisition of the 30mm /Egbaoma Gas Processing Plant in Delta State by PNG Gas Limited with a transaction value of over USD 55 million. He also acted as one of the lead counsel in structuring equity and mezzanine finance of over USD USD 50 million raised by PNG Gas Limited from a consortium of financiers led by Union Bank Plc.

Matthew coordinated and supervised the process of incorporating Masters Energy Oil and Gas Ltd which is currently a major multi-billion Naira player in the downstream sector of the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry and was also one of the lead lawyers that advised and structured Gaslink Nigeria at inception. Prior to joining M.J. Partnership; Solicitors, Matthew had worked with the law firm of Abdulai, Taiwo & Co.; Solicitors where he rose to the position of Senior Associate and acquired a broad range of experience and skills in advising blue-chip organizations.
